Where are they now?
They're HOME! (updated 8/13/06). Click Here
Day 14 - Friday, August
11th (aka the lost pictures from the last day!) I didn't
realize Bemo had sent more pictures Saturday morning (I was out of town
then). Lo and behold, I find a few more pictures in my email, so here
are Friday's pictures. (added 8/15/06, 5:00 p.m.)
Homecoming - Saturday, August 12th
It was an emotional performance to a nearly-sold-out
Missouri Theater -- the New Generation Singers sang their hearts out!
Most of these pictures could never win an award (I can say that since I
took all of them), but I figured it was better to include everything
that was even remotely in focus. The 160+ pictures are divided into five
sets - hopefully they will load quickly for you.
Homecoming Pictures -
Set 1 -- Arrival and setup
Homecoming Pictures -
Set 2 -- Final performance begins with the "informal" section
Homecoming Pictures -
Set 3 -- Informal section closer, thank yous, tour "stuff" and the
skit
Homecoming Pictures -
Set 4 -- Sermon in Song formal section "Until the End of Time..."
Homecoming Pictures -
Set 5 -- Benediction, final good byes and Ground Round
We will also be
converting Bemo's slide show to a file that can be shared here on the
website (please check back in a few days).
Day 13 - Thursday,
August 10th
Looks like Bemo sent some of the kids' pictures! Note that
we probably won't have an update tomorrow morning, but look for LOTS of
pictures from the arrival and the Homecoming performance (hopefully
posted on Sunday). While I'm thinking about it, be sure to thank Bemo
for sending pictures during the trip. Even though we give him a hard
time for not sending "enough" or maybe missing a day or two, it's REALLY
hard to do on a trip (I speak from experience!) It's even harder when
you're at a different location every day.
Also, here are a couple
of emails I have received over the last few days.
Day 12 - Wednesday,
August 9th
Bonus
Pictures -- These were taken by an audience member Vic Van Allen. (A
special thanks to Vic!) And a bonus to the bonus...a
movie! Vic also made a short video with his camera. There's no
sound, but at least we can see everyone is still moving. (Be patient,
this one will take a bit to load.)
Another bonus: Bemo received the draft version of an
article that will likely appear in a newsletter for the "Johnny
Appleseed District" (in the Barbershop Harmony Society, there are 16
districts, this one covers Ohio, West Virginia and part of
Pennsylvania). As you will see, it is another example of the great job
New G is doing on this trip. Here is the
article, written by Alan Lapp, Executive Vice President of the
Singing Buckeyes Chorus in Columbus, Ohio.
Day 11 - As you have seen on the schedule, the performance
last night was in North Huntingdon, Pa.; turns out there's also a
Huntingdon, Pa.. But unlike North Kansas City and Kansas City, those
cities in Pennsylvania are 100 miles apart. And the sponsors' hotel was
booked in Huntingdon. Anyway, they found a closer hotel...can you feel the
bad news coming...they only had dial-up access and Bemo was not able to
send pictures. There is a bit of good news, we're hoping for a set of
pictures from a local photographer at the concert, but it will be this
evening at best before stuff gets posted. Sorry about the delay.
Day 10 - Monday, August
7th (kind of)
Day 9 - Sunday, August
6th
A great set of pictures and an even better story of the
day.
Day 8 - Saturday, August
5th
Day 7 - Friday, August
4th
Bemo was able to find a better Internet connection later in
the day and sent 11 new pictures (added Sunday morning).
Day 6 - Thursday, August
3rd
4:00 Update --
Added some pictures of
the Homecoming committee prep Thursday night at the church.
Day 5 - Wednesday,
August 2nd
Bemo said last night's performance
will set the standard for the kids pulling together and
putting on an amazing performance. They were in a small, hot
church (no A/C) and could only setup 4 risers (about half of
what they normally use). The kids were stacked EIGHT rows
deep and sang their hearts out. We'll hear more about it
later, but he said it was one of the most amazing things
he's seen in 36 years of New G.
Day 4 - Tuesday, August
1st
Take a look at this
wonderful letter that we received by email.
Day 3 - Monday, July
31st
If you are a singer on the road, or a parent in contact
with a singer and they are emailing you, feel free to have them email
pictures to
info@newgsingers.com and I will try to post them too.
Day 2 - Sunday, July
30th
Byron said the two performances went very well this
morning, in fact, the first "non-contemporary" service was packed with
600-700 people who were really into it. The second service was
"contemporary" and while they reacted well, it was the early service that
really 'rocked'. In other news, the AC in Bemo's bus went out "an hour outside of St. Louis, it was a
hot ride, but is fixed now".

Day 1 - Saturday, July
29th (from Bemo)

Introduction
Every year during the last week of July and the first week
of August, The New Generation Singers take a "little" road trip to a
region of the United States. We perform a concert most nights and two
concerts on Sundays. Tour is open to any member of The New Generation
Singers who has successfully completed his or her fundraising goal or
alternatives, and who has regularly attended rehearsals and sing-outs, and
is proficient in the music in which we will be performing. In addition,
Singers have the opportunity to sing solo or in a small ensemble or play
an instrumental solo between songs during an informal part of our
performances while on tour.
